Heli Service Belgium’s range of services also includes the possibility of deploying a helicopter for ambulance flights. Helicopter ambulances are used to transport patients between hospitals or specialised hospitals. The advantage of medical air transport is the time saved, flying from point to point without the hassle of traffic jams and road congestion, unlike road ambulances.
A medical helicopter is also used to transport organs. To save lives and be as medically efficient as possible, it is important that organs reach their destination for transplantation quickly and under optimal conditions.
In the past, Heli Service Belgium also provided the medical helicopter – better known as the ‘MUG-heli’ – for the Institute for Urgent Medical Assistance at St John’s Hospital in Bruges.
